Computed, not announced by the CRA. The 2027 limit of $7,500 is worked out below under Income Tax Act s.207.01(1) from Statistics Canada's September 2026 CPI. The CRA confirms the figure in November 2026; this page will show its number then. The confirmed 2026 limit is $7,000.

TFSA Contribution Limit 2027 (Computed)

The 2027 TFSA dollar limit works out to $7,500. The CRA has not announced it yet, so this is our calculation from the law and Statistics Canada's CPI, not a CRA figure. The working is below.

How the $7,500 was computed

section 207.01(1) of the Income Tax Act sets the TFSA dollar limit for each year after the legislated early years as $5,000 "adjusted for each year after 2009 in the manner set out in section 117.1", rounded to the nearest $500. The section 117.1 factor for a year uses the Consumer Price Index for the 12 months ended September 30 before that year.

  1. Average all-items CPI for Canada, October 2025 to September 2026 (Statistics Canada table 18-10-0004-01): 167.525. The September 2026 reading was released on October 19, 2026.
  2. The same average a year earlier, October 2024 to September 2025: 163.275.
  3. The 2027 indexation factor is the ratio of the two, rounded to one decimal: 2.6%.
  4. Chaining each year's factor from 2009 onward starting at $5,000 gives $7,371.72 for 2027.
  5. Rounded to the nearest $500: $7,500.

The unrounded value is $121.72 above $7,250, the point below which it would round down, so the result does not hinge on rounding detail. The same method applied to the CPI for earlier years reproduces every limit the CRA published from 2010 to 2026. It is still our calculation: the CRA announces the official figure in November 2026.

How the indexation mechanism works

The TFSA dollar limit started at $5,000 in 2009. Every year since, the base amount is indexed to inflation under section 117.1 and rounded to the nearest $500.

Because of the rounding step, the published limit doesn't move every year even though the underlying indexed value grows continuously. A published limit like $7,000 covers a whole range of underlying indexed values: anything from roughly $6,750 to just under $7,250 rounds to $7,000. The limit only steps up once cumulative inflation pushes the true value past that upper edge.

The CRA publishes only the rounded limit each year, not the unrounded figure.

Why $7,000 has held for 3 years

This isn't the first multi-year plateau. The TFSA limit has held flat for several years at a time before, then jumped once inflation caught up:

Years held Limit
2016 – 2018 (3 years)$5,500
2019 – 2022 (4 years)$6,000
2024 – 2026 (3 years, current)$7,000

Frequently asked questions

What is the TFSA contribution limit for 2027?

$7,500, computed under Income Tax Act s.207.01(1) from Statistics Canada's September 2026 CPI; the CRA confirms the figure in November. The CRA has not announced it yet. That is up from $7,000 in 2026. Your own room for 2027 is this amount plus any unused room carried forward and any withdrawals you made in 2026.

How was the 2027 limit calculated if the CRA has not announced it?

Section 207.01(1) of the Income Tax Act sets the limit as $5,000 indexed under section 117.1 and rounded to the nearest $500. The 2027 factor is the average all-items CPI for the 12 months ended September 30, 2026 (167.525) divided by the same average a year earlier (163.275), which is 2.6% to one decimal. Chaining every year's factor from $5,000 gives $7,371.72, which rounds to $7,500. The same method reproduces every published limit from 2010 to 2026.

What is the total TFSA room by 2027?

$116,500 using the computed 2027 limit for someone who was 18 or older and resident in Canada in 2009 and has never contributed: every annual dollar limit from 2009 to 2027 added together. Anyone who turned 18 later starts accumulating from that year.

Could the CRA's 2027 limit differ from $7,500?

Only if the CRA's inflation factor differs materially from 2.6%. The unrounded value is $7,371.72, $121.72 above the $7,250 point where it would round down, so the factor would have to come in far lower. The CPI is not revised after release. This page will show the CRA's figure as soon as it is published.

Why did the limit stay the same for multiple years before (2016-2018, 2019-2022)?

Because rounding to the nearest $500 means each dollar limit covers a range of underlying indexed values, not a single point. The limit only moves once cumulative inflation pushes the true indexed figure past the midpoint into the next $500 band — sometimes that takes one year, sometimes several.
