Frequently asked questions
Are federal public service salaries public in Canada?
Yes. Treasury Board publishes classification pay ranges and steps in collective agreements. This page uses those public AS rates; it does not publish or infer any named employee's personal earnings.
Why does the calculator use the June 2024 AS rates?
Those are the final approved rates in the PA agreement that expired in June 2025. They remain the current published AS scale while a replacement agreement is negotiated. Future retroactive increases are not estimated.
What is Group 1 versus Group 2 pension membership?
Group 1 generally means you began contributing before January 1, 2013; Group 2 means after December 31, 2012. Their 2026 contribution rates and unreduced-pension ages differ.
Are union dues included?
Union dues differ by bargaining agent, component and local, so the default is zero. Enter your annual amount to include the cash deduction and its income-tax deduction.
Is this the same as an official paycheque?
No. It is an annual planning estimate using basic personal amounts. Your TD1 claims, taxable benefits, bilingual or acting pay, overtime, union dues and Phoenix payroll adjustments can change actual deductions.
