What this estimate includes
Start with the gross estate, then subtract only property that is legally outside the probate estate. The calculator applies the selected jurisdiction’s statutory bands and any separately modelled grant filing fee.
Multiple wills, joint ownership, named beneficiaries and land outside the province can change the amount requiring a grant. This tool is a planning estimate, not an opinion on estate ownership.
Questions this calculator answers
Are probate fees based on the whole estate?
Not always. The taxable probate estate depends on provincial law, ownership, beneficiary designations and the type of grant. Enter assets outside the probate estate only after confirming their treatment.
Does Quebec charge probate fees?
A notarial will generally does not require probate in Quebec. Other will forms may require verification and court or notary costs that are different from a value-based probate tax.
Are legal and executor fees included?
No. The estimate covers the selected province or territory’s probate or estate-administration schedule, including a modelled filing fee where applicable, but not professional or executor costs.
